Hospice Mid-Northland has three shops located in Kawakawa, Kaikohe and Kerikeri.  We have an experienced retail manager who oversees the three shops, however all other staff work on a voluntary basis.  The shops are an opportunity to include the whole community in our fundraising efforts.

We also provide work experience through the Gateway Programme for high school pupils and for individuals looking for work experience.  We welcome other community groups to participate and be included.

We believe the shop environment creates a welcoming introduction to Hospice and a safe way for patients and their families to find their way to our nursing care and family support.

Hospice Mid Northland are always grateful to our community for the donations of furniture, clothing and accessories, kitchenware, trinkets and treasures, books, music and more.  We recycle these items, sorting, cleaning and pricing at our distribution centre and directing the revenue to our specialist hospice care.  Without these generous donations, we would not be able to achieve the level of fundraising required to continue a 5-star hospice service.

We have a lot of fun while keeping individuals connected to their community - our shops have become a 'hub' in the areas they are located - a place to meet up with a friend and search for a bargain or two!

We are always looking out for volunteers to work in our shop, so if you have a passion for learning something new, working with others and contributing positively to your community we would love for you to join us in one of the three locations.  To find out more please contact our Retail Operations Manager on 09 407 3993 or Carol Price, Manager Volunteer Services on 09 407 7799.

Our Retail Operations Manager

Introducing our  Hospice Shop Retail Operations Manager, Shirley Carruthers.
"I'm really excited about joining the hospice team in this new role. I know I am going to be working with a wonderful group of volunteers supporting a dedicated and caring Hospice Team."
"It is my time to give back."
Shirley leads our retail operations from securing donated goods to ensuring we have happy customers walking out the door. This is a new role for Hospice and Shirley has a great team of volunteers helping her in our three shops and our donated goods sorting centre.
Shirley and her team of volunteers are growing our retail sales with innovative new ideas. They are really happy to accept your donated goods in order to on-sell them and support recycling. All of this very important work is to keep our team of nurses on the road and keep our patient services free to our community. It’s got to be good for everyone!
We are changing how we do things in our retail network and we hope you continue to shop with us and encourage your friends and family to shop with us. Please keep us in mind when you are clearing out your closet or upscaling/downscaling your furniture…we are very happy to take things off your hands.
We are keen to hear from you about any ideas you may have for us to improve your donating and buying experiences.
