Behind every dazzling performance at The Battle of the Ballroom lies an unseen team who transform nerves into confidence and everyday faces into stage-ready stars. This year, that magic came courtesy of our very own Glam Squad — a group of Kerikeri’s leading hair and makeup professionals who generously donated their time, products, and expertise to support Hospice.
Collectively, the Glam Squad represents more than 200 years of experience across film, television, weddings, editorial, and special events. Their artistry helped shape the polished looks that lit up the Turner Centre stage, ensuring every dancer, judge, and host could step into the spotlight with confidence.
“Our role is more than styling hair or applying makeup. It’s about helping people feel their best in a moment that matters — and that’s why we give our time to Hospice,” says Glam Squad co-lead Laurel Stratford.
From Backstage to the Big Day
The talents of this team don’t stop at the theatre. With wedding season fast approaching in the Bay of Islands — and with the Northland Women’s Club Black & White Ball just around the corner — now is the perfect time to call on the professionals who support our community both on and off stage.
From internationally published artists like Sonia Merlo, to celebrated bridal specialists such as Pip Jones and Bayley Moor, to creative leaders Katy Jane and Laurel Stratford, the Glam Squad is a powerhouse of skill. They were joined by Bex Fennessy, Chris Mowat, Angelique Hohaia, Annalise Bergman, Anna Hewlett, Olena (Lena) Latysheva, and more — each bringing their own signature style and generosity of spirit.
More Than Glamour
The value of their combined contribution to Hospice this year is estimated at over $30,000 in services, product, and time. Yet, when you ask them why they do it, the answer is always the same: to give back.
Hospice Mid-Northland relies on volunteers — whether they are styling hair, running a retail shop, baking for events, or helping families directly. The Glam Squad stands as a shining example of how professional skill, when given freely, can create both unforgettable experiences and vital funds for palliative care in our community.
So, as wedding season begins and tickets go on sale for the next Black & White Ball, we encourage you to book local, support those who support Hospice, and celebrate the volunteers who make our region sparkle.
