Special Time

Special People, Special Places, Special Time

We recognise how stressful it can be when faced with a life-limiting illness - as a patient, family member/whanau, or care-giver.

Special Time is where volunteers give their time and their skills to provide a patient and their family/whanau and/or caregivers with complementary therapies such as : massage, reflexology, reiki and other therapies.  Their input is vital to the service that we provide.

Unconditional Touch massage is designed to relax you.  Loving Touch massage therapy is used to help alleviate stress, tension and soreness and to increase blood flow to the muscles.

Gentle massage of the reflexes in the foot or hand which helps to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium.  Reflexology is specially recommended to alleviate tension and improve blood circulation.  The technique promotes relaxation and well-being.

Facials/Foot Treatments

Local beauty therapists offer mini facials (cleanse and facial massage) or foot treatments such as soak, scrub and massage. These all assist to restore balance and wellbeing. It's a time to relax, unwind and destress.

Holistic 'life-energy' treatments soothe tension and balance disharmony in the body.  Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Force and can provide relaxation, energy, assist with pain, anxiety and promote release of emotion.  Reiki is received through a series of light hand placements on the person's fully clothed body.
